Toyota Pre-Collision System

Toyotas showing how pre-collision system works

Many Marshfield drivers opt for a Toyota vehicle because of the Toyota Safety Sense™ system. Keeping you safe and sound on the roads, this suite of safety features includes the pre-collision system. So how does the Toyota Pre-Collision system work? The front-facing camera works with the laser to track any objects in your path and when it does, it will alert you to hit the brakes. In extreme cases, this system can bring your car to a complete stop. Learn more about how the Toyota Pre-Collision system works below with McGee Toyota of Hanover.

How Does the Toyota Pre-Collision System Work?

Our team will break down some key details to the pre-collision system below, so you can understand how life-changing this system is:

  • The Toyota Pre-Collision System uses a front-facing camera and radar system.
  • The system measures the distance between your vehicle and the upcoming object in your path to gauge if they should alert you or even stop your car.
  • It also factors in your speed and determines the likelihood of a collision.
  • If the system detects that a collision might happen in Pembroke, your car will give you an audiovisual cue that you need to apply the brakes immediately.
  • If you can’t brake, the pre-collision system may apply the brakes or deploy them at full force to prevent a collision.

Toyota Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection

Various versions of the Toyota Pre-Collision System exist, but a common one is the one with Pedestrian Detection in the Toyota Safety Sense™ 2.0 (TSS 2.0). The latest versions, TSS 2.5 and TSS 2.5+ also include intersection support and emergency steering functionality to help prevent collisions with motorists, cyclists, as well as pedestrians.

In Toyota cars with Pedestrian Detection, the system uses millimeter-wave radar to scan your surroundings as you continue to drive in the Scituate area. For example, as you make it turn, it can detect oncoming vehicles or pedestrians. If it senses a collision to happen, it will give audio and visual signals and even braking power when needed.
